In 1918 a young Army aviator from Medford, 3 month before the end of WWI, flew into battle over France and never came home. This past Veteran’s day, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors which I am a part of, was honored to attend an unveiling for a monument dedicated to that young aviator, his name was Newell Barber.
Medford first airport was located where the south Walmart is now located, between Center Drive and South Pacific Highway. In 1920, that field was dedicated to Newell for his sacrifice to his country and this Veteran’s Day we remembered his sacrifice with this beautiful monument.
